Silicon carbide castable, also known as SiC castable. It is a type of non-shape refractory material made from carborundum powder and other materials. It serves several functions in various applications:
Refractory silicon carbide is a synthetic refractory material based on SiC substance (CAS:409-21-2). It is made from silica granules and carbon material in a huge resistance electric furnace at about 2800 degrees. Refractory Silicon carbide chunks, nubbles, and powder always work as refractory lining, furnace castale, and mortar. Silicon carbide is a better refractory aggregate and castable than aluminum oxide-based refractories for its extraordinary advantages as follows:
Black SiC and Green SiC are both hard and tough abrasion materials in the industrial field. Besides the color difference, there are many differences in properties and performance.
Black silicon carbide is an excellent refractory material. It is widely used as a furnace lining, kiln furniture, firebrick, and crucibles.
Black silicon carbide (Carborundum) is a good filler as an anti-skid aggregate in flooring. It can improve the anti-skid performance and service life. Meanwhile, it can reduce maintenance costs after installation. At present, the main materials added to wear-resistant flooring include quartz sand, garnet, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and other materials. The cost of Silicon carbide is the highest. However, it’s the most workable one with good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and durability. Black silicon carbide F24, F30, F54, and F70 are commonly adopted in flooring applications.
Green silicon carbide abrasive powder is a brittle & extreme hardness (Mohs hardness of 9.5) material. It is suitable for producing grinding wheels for processing hard and brittle material workpieces. GC F36-F500 are mostly used for Abrasive tools. For example, resin-bonded stone GC grinding wheels; Ceramic grinding wheels for bearing processing; Fiber wheels, wire drawing wheels, flexible grinding wheels, nylon grinding wheels, etc. used for polishing and polishing stone and marble.
