Green silicon carbide for copper blasting
Green silicon carbide is an ideal abrasive blasting media and polishing material for copper and brass.
Generally, sandblasting media hardness should be higher than that of the blasting substrate material. However, for materials with good ductility and softness, the grinding material must have a higher hardness. So it can perform rapid grinding. Meanwhile, it can prevent soft metal from sticking on blasting media grains. As a result, the blasting operation achieves the ideal grinding effect.
Brass is a commonly used metal that can be made into various copper accessories, musical instruments, molds, etc. Brass has a lower hardness than stainless steel, but it is a wear-resistant and brittle metal with good ductility. Alumina-based abrasives have a hardness of 9.0 on the Mohs scale. Corundum blasting media is suitable for grinding materials such as stainless steel. However, for brass or copper alloys, green silicon carbide abrasives with higher hardness, more aggressive grinding power, and higher self-sharpening properties are required.
The hardness of green silicon carbide abrasive is only lower than that of the diamond. Moreover, the grinding power of silicon carbide is twice of fused alumina. It can be used as a sandblasting material to grind brass products. Green silicon carbide abrasive sand can achieve a better surface treatment effect on copper machined parts. In addition, the use of green silicon carbide micro powder to make a polishing liquid for surface polishing of copper products also has a good effect.
