Different types of silicon carbide powder
There are three types of silicon carbide powder with different production technology. They are Raymond roller milling, jet milling, and water overflow washing. The physical properties of the silicon carbide powders get different as well.
Raymond roller milling. It mills by grinding between the spatula and the grinding ring under the multiple grinding rollers. Then classify the silicon carbide particles into different sizes. During this process, the grinding rollers and grinding rings run at high speed. The finer particles are thrown out by centrifugal force. And the fan under the Raymond mill produces a cyclone, which collects the silicon carbide powder through different pipes. Raymond roller mill can produce silicon carbide powder with particle sizes of 44-613 microns. The silicon carbide powder with this process is always without chemical treatment.
Jet milling. It mills by high-speed airflow to accelerate the flow of raw materials in the crushing chamber. The acceleration force of the airflow causes the silicon carbide particles to collide and impact each other. The friction and rotation between the particles produce powders of different particle sizes, which are collected through different classification zones. The jet mills can produce silicon carbide powder with a particle size of 150-8 microns. Before the production of jet mill, the silicon carbide is chemically treated to remove other impurities in the raw material. The cleanliness of the produced silicon carbide is higher than that of Raymond mill. Production efficiency is also higher.
Water overflow washing. It is a process of suspension treatment after roller milling. By controlling the water flow time, powders with different particle sizes flow into the sedimentation tanks of corresponding specifications respectively. Then dry the powder in an oven. Later make it to loose powder. The silicon carbide powder overflowing get SiC microns with a particle size range of 63-1 microns. This process involves a chemical treatment. As a result, the purity of the silicon carbide powder is higher. The particle range of silicon carbide micro powder of this type is narrow. However, the production efficiency is low, the finer the specification, the longer the precipitation time. Therefore, the finer powder gets a lower capacity.
The above are details of the silicon carbide powder with different sieving processes. The application for those three types is as below:
Refractory and metallurgy: Raymond milling silicon carbide powder 325 mesh,200 mesh, etc.
Refractory and low-quality ceramic: Jet milling silicon carbide fine powder or microns.
High-level silicon carbide ceramic and polishing: Water overflow washing silicon carbide micro powder.
