Silicon carbide grit for blasting metal
Generally, Silicon carbide grit is always used for grinding on glass, marble, and granite for its awesome hardness. But in particular, silicon carbide works well for blasting on brass, copper alloy, aluminum alloy, titanium alloy, tungsten steel, and other metals.
Different alloy materials vary in Hardness, viscosity, and ductility. Users have to get the proper blasting media. Silicon carbide abrasive is an aggressive blasting media for fragile & hard metals.
For normal metals such as carbon steel and stainless steel, aluminum oxide is enough for cleaning the surface. However, when it comes to alloy materials with high viscosity and high strength, silicon carbide abrasives will highlight their advantages. The Mohs hardness and microhardness of silicon carbide abrasive are both higher than those of aluminum oxide. On the other hand, the grinding ability is more aggressive than aluminum oxide. The sharp edge of silicon carbide etches metal surface quickly. Meanwhile, the cost is very competitive with diamond, so it plays a great role in alloy products.
For example, black silicon carbide blasting media is suitable for aluminum alloy semiconductor materials. And Green silicon carbide grit for surface passivation of copper dies steel. Green silicon carbide grain is suitable for cleaning the burrs and spots of hard alloys such as tungsten steel and tungsten carbide. GC grit works well for preparing surfaces of titanium knives and cookware before thermal spray. Green silicon carbide powder is a good lapping powder for high-precision hard steel balls.
