Black silicon carbide F16/F20 for ductile iron foundry
Product Introduction of Black silicon carbide F16/F20 for ductile iron foundry
Black silicon carbide (SiC)F16/F20 is also called black carborundum. It is a non-metallic material made from Petroleum coke and silicon sand by melting in a high-temperature resistance furnace. The main application of black silicon carbide in cast iron & ductile iron foundry is deoxidizer due to its high refractory stability, good thermal stability, high-temperature slag resistance, and good deoxidization and reduction properties. Adding silicon carbide to the iron before casting can improve the performance and quality of cast iron. Usually, 85-90% silicon carbide is suitable for the casting of gray cast iron, and 97-98% silicon carbide is suitable for the casting of ductile iron.
The melting point of silicon carbide is as high as 2700 ℃. During the process of melting cast iron in an induction furnace, it does not melt in high-temperature molten iron but rather mix in cast iron. The addition of black silicon carbide can improve the carbon equivalent, and serve as an Oxygen scavenger to strengthen the reducibility of molten iron. It can prevent carbide precipitation, improve the compactness of cast iron, and increase the graphite spheroidization rate of nodular cast iron. Thus, adding carborundum can improve the quality of cast iron.
Black silicon carbide F16/F20 for ductile iron foundry Functions:
- After adding silicon carbide to molten iron, it can be converted into carbon and silicon in cast iron, increasing the carbon equivalent.
- The carbon and silicon decomposed by silicon carbide in molten iron have a greater internal energy than the carbon and silicon in the molten iron itself. The carbon in the molten iron does not precipitate and cannot produce deoxidation. As a result, the carbon in silicon carbide can achieve deoxidation reduction.
- The deoxidation effect of silicon carbide is beneficial for graphite nucleation and can improve the processing and mechanical properties of cast iron.
- Adding silicon carbide to cast iron can increase the degree of graphitization and reduce the tendency for white spots. Thereby improve the mechanical properties of cast iron. For ductile iron, the number of graphite spheres can be increased to improve the modularization rate.
- The deoxygenation products generated by silicon carbide deoxygenation will undergo metallurgical reactions in the molten iron. So, it reduces the harmful effects of oxides in the corrosive furnace material and achieving the purification effect of the molten iron.
