Why Green Carborundum Powder is a good additive to Non-stick Coating?
The main substance used in the non-stick coating of most non-stick pans is a polymer resin called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE/ Teflon). Polytetrafluoroethylene resin has features such as high temperature resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, antioxidants, and very low surface tension. It is suitable for non-stick pans.
The main component in the Teflon coating is polytetrafluoroethylene. Although it is not sticky, it has a relatively low service life.
There are several reasons that make it of short life:
1. The mechanical strength of PTFE is not high in ordinary engineering plastics. The strength at high temperature is even worse. When cooking at high temperatures, even if you use a wooden spatula or plastic spatula with relatively low strength materials, they wear out quickly.
2. PTFE resin is a kind of thermosetting resin. Its fluidity is low during high-temperature processing. Many pores will be left when the coating is sintered. Saltwater will follow the pores to the interface between the coating and the metal. That will cause corrosion and affect the life of the non-stick coating.
3. The abrasion resistance of PTFE mainly comes from the sinking deformation caused by the contact of the spatula with the coating. That will cause the shovel to easily scratch the coating when it moves.
One of the effective solutions is to add some wear-resistant material to the coating. Green Carborundum Powder is an ideal material adding to the coating. Green Carborundum Powder has properties including:
1.High hardness
2.High thermal expansion resistance
3.High oxidation resistance
4.High chemical corrosion resistance
5.Good thermal shock resistance,
6.High wear resistance
7.High strength in high temperature
Green Carborundum Powder can be used as an additive to add Teflon coating to improve the lifetime.
