GC powder 4000# for GC whetstone
GC whetstone is suitable for grinding high hardness metal materials such as martensitic stainless steel and bearing steel. As the main abrasive material in whetstone, GC 4000# powder (Green carborundum powder 4000#) has to meet the requirements as below:
1. SiC Purity
High purity is a basic requirement, SiC min 98% to ensure that few impurities occure during the grinding process. That can make sure clean grinding.
2. Particle size distribution.
The particle size distribution should be uniform with small deviation to 2.6-3.4um. In this way, narrow particle range ensures grinding efficiency and surface smoothness.
Green silicon carbide powder with a D50 value of 3.5um is complied to FEPA GC F1200 and JIS 6001 standards with a mesh size of 4000. They have strict requirements for the D10 and D94 values of the powder to ensure consistency in particle size.
3. Appearance.
The particle shape should be as close to spherical or polygonal as possible. In the meantime, avoiding needle shaped or sheet-like particles. That feature reduces scratches and damage to the surface of the material being ground during the grinding process.
4. Hardness and strength.
Abrasive GC powder has high hardness. High strength can prevent crushing due to mechanical force during grinding, resulting in coarsening of particle size or excessive production of fine powder. The GC abrasive powder has to be aggressive sharp to invoice any loading of whetstone.
5. Dispersion.
The dispersibility of GC powdre in the grinding medium is good. Morover, there should be no obvious agglomeration phenomenon. So it ensures each particle can uniformly contact the ground material during the grinding process and improve the grinding efficiency.
6. Chemical stability.
During the grinding process, the SiC powder should have good chemical stability and avoid chemical reactions with the steel or hard alloy. It makes the stability and grinding effect of the grinding process.
7. Impurity content.
In addition to purity, strict control should also be exercised over other possible impurities, such as iron, aluminum, calcium, and other elements, to prevent contamination of the ground material.
8. Batch consistency.
-Different batches of products should maintain consistency in particle size, morphology, purity, and other aspects to ensure the stability of the grinding effect.
These quality requirements ensure the efficient and stable application of GC powder 4000# in grinding stones, thereby achieving the expected grinding effect.
